Raetihi Holiday Park

"Excellent facilities - Very welcoming"

Raetihi Holiday Park

Welcome to Raetihi Holiday Park.

Our team would love to help you; your friends and family for your stay in Ruapehu. With Mountain Views, a beautiful scenic bush walk, a Fairy trail and games like Chess, and Connect Four our Park is the best spot for your next getaway. Enjoy a soak in our Hot Tub while you listen to Birdsong in the Surrounding trees, or pop down and visit the Glow Worms.

Raetihi is an amazing small town, with really family friendly facilities. Our town has some of the best mountain biking skiing, hunting and river activities, like canoeing, jet boating and trout fishing in the world right at our door.

Enjoy the best that New Zealand has to offer and come home to our top quality accommodation, facilities and service.

All of our cabins are heated and sleep 2-7 people.
Most cabins have 1 double bed and the balance in single beds.

We have powered sites for caravans and campervans as well as non powered tent sites.

Our communal buildings including our new amenity building (with heaters in each shower), kitchen and dining room are all modern and comfortable.

Enjoy your home away from home, as you make the most of our areas activities or take that well earned rest.
We are located in the North Island of New Zealand on SH 4 at the top of the scenic Parapara Highway, 88kms from Wanganui only 10 minutes from Ohakune at the base of Mt Ruapehu and 27km from the Whanganui River.

We look forward to seeing you soon.

Getting to Raetihi is part of the adventure. The roads here are scenic and impressive. We are based on State Highway Four.
Driving from Auckland you will see the Raurimu Spiral. Driving from Taranaki you can take the scenic Forgotten highway. Driving from Wanganui/ Wellington you can choose the Whanganui River Road – or the Parapara Road. Both are breathtaking.
If you don’t have a car to get here don’t fret. If you prefer rail, there is a train station in Ohakune ten minutes away. Talk to us about arranging a shuttle to our Holiday Park (groups of four or more).
The Intercity Bus, and Naked bus are both pretty on to it – affordable, and both can drop you just down the road from us.
WHAT ABOUT ONCE YOU ARE HERE??
If you are here for a group gathering – if you want to go out and have a good night but don’t want to risk driving back from the bar, have a chat to us about a night time shuttle. We do not operate a regular service – but if you book in advance for a group we can help you out.

The Raetihi Holiday Park is perfectly situated next to a number of family activities, during winter we often have snow flurries.

Our Holiday Park is about 600 metres above sea level – so keep an eye on the Central North Island weather forecast – and if you want to bring your kids along to build snowmen, book a room when you see the snow on the forecast.

The ski fields of Turoa are a short drive from our Holiday Park and a great option for your family ski holiday. The base of Mount Ruapehu is only 11km away in Ohakune, but staying in Raetihi is a cheaper family option, and a little quieter than the hustle and bustle of Ohakune.

Mount Ruapehu has ski lessons, and ski gear for hire – you will also find plenty of shops in Ohakune willing to help you out with ski gear hire.

If you forget a layer of clothing, we have a small clothing store in our office with a small range of ridgeline clothing so you can stay warm.

Canoeing the Whanganui River is an absolute must do in New Zealand. It is one of DoC’s nine great walks, and WHANGANUI RIVER CANOES operates from right here at the Raetihi Holiday Park!! When booking your accommodation, ask us about our canoe trips, or we can help book you for any trip on the Whanganui River.
The Bridge to Nowhere has been identified by the AA in their top 101 must do’s for Kiwis. Raetihi is the closest town to the Bridge to Nowhere Jet Boat Tours base, with a supermarket, restaurants and bars.

Between December – March enjoy the solar heated, covered swimming pool right next to the Holiday Park!!

Take your kids over the road to the town playground which is modern and well maintained by the council. Make sure to bring your roller blades or skateboards – as there is also an outdoor skating rink (and basketball court) on the parks grounds.

The Raetihi Squash Club is inviting – on those rainy days what better than to challenge your friends to a friendly game of squash. Just cross the road to the court and the game will be on!! If you want to be out in the sun and need the challenge, how about make use of our town tennis courts!!

Talk to us about hire for any rackets/ balls you will need.

Our Holiday Park sits alongside the Makotuku River which flows from Mount Ruapehu. At the lower level of the Holiday Park is a small swimming hole – take your children for a swim- it is truly gorgeous (the campground dog, Rosie, would love to play fetch with you while you are there).

If a short walk or run is what you would like to do the Makotuku River walkway runs from one side of town to the other.

The Raetihi Holiday Park is also home to our towns popular Glow Worm Grotto. You can only see the glow worms at night so bring a torch and come and ask for directions.

Raetihi – the gateway to Adventure
A huge range of activities is available within a short distance of Raetihi including skiing, fishing, hunting, tramping, kayaking, and mountain biking or simply getting away from it all.

There are plenty of walks up or around the mountains, including the famous Tongariro Crossing and the Round the Mountain Track. Shuttles can be arranged to meet you at our Holiday Park to get you to the Crossing.

Mount Ruapehu is an amazing sight all year round. There is nothing better than sitting on one of our many decks and taking in the view of the mountain. In winter we are the perfect base for your ski holiday. The Raetihi Holiday Park is only a ten minute drive from Ohakune where you will be at the base of the mountain. In summer the ski lifts are open to take you towards the summit of Mt. Ruapehu with its’ stunning Crater Lake.
Trout are plentiful in the area as it is sparsely populated and well stocked. To go trout fishing you will need to have a fishing license.

Guided tours are many and varied and drop-offs or pick-ups can be arranged for that hunting trip, or bike ride.

All schools in the area compete showcasing their Pacific/Maori Cultures. Be moved by their powerful dance and song. And try the traditional Maori Hangi.

The school also have an amazing production every two years – using the latest technology, some talented parents/teachers with costume design and some pretty gutsy kids the school will blow you away – I still have a song in my head from last years production. . . “This girl is on fiiiiireee”
